The Monkees (1965)
- Created by holding a casting call for a TV show loosely based on the Beatles. TV show came first - Not selected for musical gifts, but they ended up having skill - TV show was cancelled in 1968. Went from TV to real band up until 1971 - Band reunited and began touring again until the death of lead vocalist Davey Jones
The Beatles - Yellow Submarine
- Crossroads of of music and art - came around at the start of the pop art movement - Obsession with celebrities transition from person to marketable product - "veiled song referencing drug use" no... of course not! meant for people who were tripping on acid (animated pshycadellic experience) - Artists *Peter Mac* and *Heinz Edelmann* collaborated with the Beatles for the animation of the movie.
John, I'm Only Dancing (David Bowie) 1972
- alter ego: Ziggy Stardust - glam rock: outrageous costumes, makeup and hairstyles, often androgynous - music video was censored on BBC for innapropriate dancing and references to a homosexual lifestyle.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen (1974)
- progressive rock - classical influence, emphasis on key board, and lengthy compositions: rock music/ballad/opera/guitar - nearly impossible to play live -single was not successful until promo video was released
Strawberry Fields Forever (Beatles) 1967
- promotional clips at this point one of the most influential - Psychadelic Rock (1966-1969) music centered around perception changing hallucenagenic drugs - Indian music influenced heavily - Film effects: reverse film, stop motion animation, jump start clips from day to night - MOMA called it a most influential video

directed by Terrance Donnovan: well known fashion photographer, visuals inspired by Patrick Nagles art. Idea of females as accessories. Models went through 7 hours of hairs and makeup. Robert Dahlmer is performing, the models are not.

first music video shown on MTV Europe in 1987: lead didn't want to be apart at all. Footage of him is him performing. Won music video of the year in 1986. Makes fun of itself.
