Insulin types: Short-Acting

Onset: 1 hr. Peak: 2 hours Duration: 4 hours Typical timing: Taken *before* a meal - This is Humulin (R) --> REGULAR insulin (the Only type of insulin that can go IV) - *"clear"* insulin - Mix insulins from *"clear to cloudy."*

Insulin types: Rapid Acting

Insulin types: Intermediate-acting

Onset: 6 hours Peak: 8 hours Duration: 12 hours Typical timing: Taken *after* a meal - This is NPH insulin ("cloudy") - Mix insulins from "clear to cloudy"
