What's the difference between the MTA (Multi-Tadil Architecture) and the MTN (Multi-Tadil Network)?
An easy way to understand the difference between the two is that the MTA refers to the physical systems that make up the MTN, and the MTN refers to both the physical systems as well as the data flowing through those systems. In short, the MTA becomes part of the MTN once data is exchanged within the network.
Who is assigned the responsibility to promulgate the OPTASK LINK.
Area Air Defense Commander, or AADC
What does the basic and extended interface consists of?
Basic interface = comprised of Link 16, Link 11, and Link 11B Extended Interface = consists of various TDLs, such as the Joint Range Extension Application Protocols, or JREAP, Situation Awareness Data Link, or SADL, Link 22, and NATO Link 1.
The interface is further broken down into the ...
Basic interface and extended interface
Categorization of occurence of those fields, sets, and segments whose use (required or prohibited) depends upon some pre-stated structural feature of the message
Conditional Occurence
What are IER's?
IERs are the requirements for information to be passed between and among joint forces and organizations, along with the technical interfaces, and protocols.
Who is responsible to the JICO for day-to-day JICC operations and the active management of the MTN
JICC Watch Officer
The mandated standard for USMTF Messages is

MIL-STD-6040
What is a mandaory initial sets
MSGID
What is the physcial configuration, functional organization, and operational procedures used in the design of multi TDL networks?
MTA
What is the MTA sys and asscociated tactical data that support the JDN production of the CTP?
MTN
The categorization of the occurence of those fields, sets, and segments, that are related to essential info and whose use is required
Mandatory Occurence
usually a mnemonic keyword that distinguishes the message format from all others
Message Text Format Identifier
a segment within another segment
NESTED SEGMENT
Categorization of the occurence of those fields, sets, and segments related to info whose use is determined soley by operational considerations
Operational Directional
the specification, or requirements, from which the completed set is built
Set Format
Who develops the MTA to support the warfighter's Information Exchange Requirements for the MTN across all of its functional components.
The JICO
What does the JMTOP refer to?
The JMTOP refers to, and defines, the MTN as the "interface."
Explain the JTDC.
The JTDC is responsible to the JICO and JICC Watch Officer for the accuracy, currency, and quality of track data, and ensures the effective flow of data and overall clarity of the tactical picture. They supervise the resolution of interface anomalies such as dual designations, duplicate tracks, identification conflicts, and category conflicts, and when assigned, transmits change data orders to resolve environment and identity conflicts
What is the difference between the MTA and the MTN
The MTA is the physical configuration, functional organization, and operational procedures used in the design, establishment, modification, and operation of Multi-TDL Networks. More simply, the MTA is the physical connections and equipment of the MTN. The MTN is the MTA and the associated tactical data that supports the Joint Data Network, or JDN, production of the common tactical picture, or CTP.
Who has the authority for managing the MTN?
The authority for managing the MTN is delegated from the Commander, Joint Task Force, through the Area Air Defense Commander, to the Joint Interface Control Officer, or JICO
What does the interface consist of?
The interface consists of three elements: Interface Units, or IU, tactical data links, and voice coordination.
What is the purpose of the MTN?
The purpose of the MTN is to satisfy the subset of warfighters' IERs specifically facilitated by Tactical Data Links.
Who owns the CTP?
belongs to the JTF commander, and a CCDR can have multiple JTFs operating concurrently
The MTA serves as the plan for how the MTN systems will be ...
configured, initiated, and managed.
What is the JDN?
is a compilation of multiple data injects, comprised of a wide variety of data processing systems carrying a broad range of information. CJCSM 3115.01 defines the operational requirements for data communications in support of JTF operations and JTF IERs.
What is the JICO responsible for?
planning the MTA and executing the MTN which supports the Joint Task Force Commander's Information Exchange Requirements or IERs
What is the MTN?
provides the majority of data that constitutes the JTF Commander's Common Tactical Picture.
JICC Watch Officer coordinates and has _______ ________ to resolve cross-regional MTN issues with the Regional Interface Control Cells, or RICCs, or Sector Interface Control Cells, or SICCs.
resolution authority
a group of two or more consecutive sets that can be repeated as a group
segment
What is the primary distinguishing characteristic of data links within the MTN?
that they facilitate the exchange of processed track reports such as land, sea, and air in near-real time.
The JICO is responsible to...
the CJTF and functional component commanders through the AADC for the entire interface to include all planning and execution functions.
Explain the responsibilities of the Link 16 Manager
will coordinate the Link 16 initialization process, manage network role assignments and connectivity between JUs to include activation and deactivation of relays. The Link 16 Manager directs corrective actions when disruptions occur to ensure the effective and efficient exchange of information, ensure compliance with required interference protection features, or IPF, evaluates Link 16 performance and reports operational effectiveness, and resolves cross-regional Link 16 operations.
