Physician or Doctor (MD) medical doctor DO [doctor of osteopathy]

A doctors job is to diagnose disease or disability and prescribe treatment.🔬💊💉💼

Licensed Practical Nurse(LPN)

A licensed practical nurse or licensed vocational nurse administers medications and gives treatments. LPNs may also supervise nursing assistants daily care of residents. 💊📝

Medical Social Worker (MSW)

A medical social worker determines residents needs and helps get them support services, such as counseling or financial assistance.

Physical Therapist (PT)

A physical therapist evaluates a person and develops a treatment, improve circulation, promote healing, reduce pain, prevent disability, and help the resident regain or maintain mobility. 🚶💃

Registered Dietitian (RDT)

A registered dietitian creates diets for residents with special needs. Special diets can improve health and help manage illness.

Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)

A speech language pathologist or speech therapist, identifies communication disorders, addresses factors involved in recovery, and develops a plan of care to meet recovery goals! An (SLP) teaches exercises to help the resident improve or overcome speech problems.📝👄

Advance Directives

Allow people to choose what medical care they want or do not want if they cannot make those decisions themselves!😔 NA may be asked to continue to monitor vital signs, report reading to nurse. Comfort measures like pain medication, will continue to be used. However depending on what the advance directive states, performing CPR or any extraordinary measures are measures used to prolong life. NA should respect each residents decisions about advance directive 🙏

Occupation Therapist (OT)

An occupational therapist helps residents learn to adapt to disabilities. Assist in training residents to perform (ADLs) activities of daily living are also personal daily tasks. They include bathing, dressing, caring for teeth,skin, nails, and hair, walking, transferring, toileting, and eating and drinking. It often involves the use of equipment called assistive or adaptive devices. 💁🍴☕️🚿

Defense Mechanisms👊✋

Are unconscious behaviors used to release tension or cope with stress!!! DENIAL---Completely rejecting the thought or feeling-- "I'm not upset with you!" PROJECTION-- Seeing feelings in others that are really ones own! " My teacher hates me." DISPLACEMENT--- Transferring a strong negative feeling to a safer situation. " An unhappy employee cannot yell at his boss for fear of losing his job" HE LATER YELLS AT HIS WIFE!😡. REGRESSION--- Going back to an old, usually immature behavior! Example; Throwing a temper tantrum as an adult!😡 REPRESSION--- Blocking unacceptable thoughts or painful feelings from the mind.🙉 Example: Forgetting sexual abuse. RATIONALIZATION/-- Making excuses to justify a situation!😳 I'm stealing something because everybody else does it!

The Nursing Process

Assessment: getting information about the resident from many sources, including medical history, physical assessment, and environmental, and reviewing this information, Diagnosis: Identifying the health problems after looking at all the residents needs. Planning: Setting goals and creating a care plan into action; giving care. Implementation: Putting the care plan into action; giving care. Evolution: A careful examination to see if the goals are being met... ADPIE!!!!

Signs and Symptoms of Clinical Depression😞😣😥

Clinical depression is serious mental illness. It may cause intense mental, emotional, and physical pain and disability. Depression also makes illness worst!😞🙏 SADNESS IS THE ONLY SIGN OF ILLNESS 😞 COMMON SYMPTOMS--- pain, including headaches, abdominal pain, and other body aches... Low energy or fatigue, apathy-- lack of interest in activities, irritability, anxiety, loss of appetite of over eating, problem with sexual functioning or desire, sleeplessness, difficulty sleeping, or excessive sleeping, lack of attention to basic personal care tasks bathing, combing hair, changing clothes, intense feelings of despair, guilt, difficulty concentrating, withdrawal and isolation, repeated thoughts of suicide and death.🙏❤️

OBRA requirements for Nursing Assistants every year

Complete 75 hrs of training and pass a competency evaluation before they can be employed. Training covers tops like communication, preventing infections, safety and emergency procedures, and how to promote residents independence and legal rights. Training includes specific NA skills vital signs, personal care skills, and observing and reporting changes in residents conditions.

Signs of Approaching Death🙏h

Death can be sudden or gradual. Certain physical changes occur that can be signs and symptoms of approaching death. VITAL SIGNS AND SKIN COLOR ARE OFTEN AFFECTED!!!!DISORIENTATION, CONFUSION, and REDUCED RESPONSIVENESS MAY OCCUR, blurred and failing vision, unfocused eyes, impaired speech, diminished sense of touch, loss of movement, muscle tone, and feeling, a rising or below- normal body temperature, decreasing blood pressure, weak pulse that is abnormally slow or rapid, Cheyne stokes, rattling or gurgling sound as the person breaths, cold pale skin, disorientation or confusion, mottling bruised appearance spotting, or blot hung of the skin cause ld by poor circulation, prrspiration!!!!🙏

Registered Nurse (RN)

In a long term care, a registered nurse coordinates, manages, and provides skilled nursing care. Includes administrating special treatments and giving medication as prescribed by a physician. A registered nurse also assigns tasks and supervises daily care of residents by nursing assistants.💊💉📝

Trendelenberg

In the Trendelenburg position, the body is laid flat on the back (supine position) with the feet higher than the head by 15-30 degrees, in contrast to the reverse Trendelenburg position, where the body is tilted in the opposite direction. Improving sleep quality! Improving the ability to cope with stress! Increasing energy! Increasing appear and promoting better eating habits! Not doing this can develop loss of self- esteem, depression, boredom, pneumonia-- fluid buildup from not moving, urinary tract infection, constipation💧💩🚽😩

Spiritual Needs

Mean of, or relating to, the sprit or soul. Helping residents meet their spiritual needs can help them cope with illness or disability. Spirituality is a sensitive area. GUIDELINES ASSISTING WITH SPIRITUAL BELIEFS: Learn about residents religious or beliefs, listen carefully to what residents say, Respect residents decisions to participate in, or refrain from, food-related rituals. If residents are religious, encourage participation in religious services, Respect all religious items, Report to the nurse (or social worker) if a resident expresses the desire to see clergy. Get to know the priest, rabbi, or minister who visits or calls a resident.🙏 Allow privacy for clergy visit, if asked read religious materials aloud, NA should never try to change someone's religion, tell residents their belief or religion is wrong, express judgments about a religious group, insists residents join religious activities, interfere with religious practices!🙏

Treatment for Mental illness

Mental illness can be treated.🙏 Medication and Psychotherapy are common treatment methods. Psychotherapy is a method of treating mental illness that involves talking about ones problems with mental health professionals. Individuals, groups, couples, or families meet with trained licensed professionals to work on their problems. 📝🙆 Therapists work with their clients to identify problems and causes.🙏📝 Residents have the right to participate in the planning of their care.

Care of the Dying Patient

NAs should follow the care plan when caring for a dying resident.😔🙏 However they should also keep guild lines in mind to help make the resident as COMFORTABLE AS POSSIBLE! Reduce glare and keep room lighting low, hearing is the last sense to leave the body, so speak in normal tone, explain to the resident about any procedures that are being done or what is happening in the room! Give mouth and nose care often, if resident is unconscious, give mouth care every 2 hours lips and nostrils may be dry and cracked👄👃, SkinCare: give bed bath and incontinence care as needed. Bathe perspiring residents often. Skin should be kept clean and dry. Change sheets and clothes for comfort. Keep sheets wrinkle- free to prevent pressure ulcers is important!!!! Comfort:Pain relief is critical. Residents may not be able to communicate that they are in pain. Observe residents for signs of pain😩 and report them!!!! Environment: display favorite objects and photographs where the resident can easily see them. Emotional and spiritual support: Residents who are dying may be afraid of what's happening and of death. Listening may be one of the most important things you can do for a resident who's dying. Pay attention to these conversations. Report any comments about fear of a nurse!!!!! 😞 don't avoid the dying person or his family! Do not deny death is approaching, and do not tell the resident that anyone knows how or when it will happen!!!!🙏

How To Communicate with the Mentally Ill

NAs should treat each resident as an individual and tailor their approach to the situation. 1.Don't talk to adults as if they were children 2. Use simple, clear statements and a normal tone of voice 3. Be sure that what you say and how you say it shows respect and concern. 4. Sit or stand at normal distance from the resident. Be aware of your body language. 5. Be honest and direct, as you would with any resident. 6. Avoid arguments 7. Maintain eye contact 8. Listen carefully 👂👀📝

Chain of Command

Nursing assistant carries out instructions given to her by a nurse. The nurse is acting on the instructions of a physician or other member of the care team. This is called a chain of command its deceives the line of authority and helps to make sure the residents get proper health care.

Signs and Symptoms of Abuse

Poisoning or traumatic injury, teeth marks, belt buckle or strap marks, bruises, contusion and welts, scars, fractures, dislocation, burns of unusual shape and in unusual locations, cigarette burns, scalding burns, scratches or puncture wounds. Scalp tenderness or patches of missing hair, swelling in the face, broken teeth, nasal discharge, bruising, bleeding or discharge from the vaginal area.😡👊✌️

Dorsal Recumbent

Position is used to examine the breasts, chest, abdomen, and perineal area. A resident in the dorsal recumbent position is flat on her back with her knees flexed and feet flat on the bed.

Lithotomy

Position is used to examine the vagina🙍 the resident lies on her back, and her hips are brought to the edge of the exam table!

Knee- Chest

Position may be used to examine the rectum or the vagina a resident in the knee chest position is lying on her abdomen.

Barriers to Communication

Residents don't hear NA or does not hear correctly or does not understand.👂😩 Resident difficult to understand 👄👀😤 NA, Resident or other use words that are not understood 😰 NA should not use medical terminology with residents or their families. NA uses slang or profanity 🙊😳 the NA should avoid using slang words and expressions. There unprofessional and my not be understood. Cliches words used over and over again 😖 example "everything will be fine"👀 is a cliché NA give advice is a big no! NA asks questions that only requires yes or no answers like what to you like to eat, drink and do not do you like veggies instead which vegetables do you like best? Nursing Assistant (NA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

She/he performs task such as taking vital signs, and provides or assists with routine personal care, such as bathing residents, helping with toileting. 75hrs to 100hrs of training.

Activities Director

The activities director plans activities for residents to help them socialize and stay physically and mentally active. These activities are meant to improve and maintain residents well-being and to prevent further complications from illness or disability.

Residents and Residents family

The resident is an important member of the care team. The resident had the right to make decisions about her/her own care. The resident helps plan care and makes choices the residents family may also be involved in theses decisions. The care of the team revolves around the resident and his/her condition, treatment and progress.

Blood borne Pathogen Standards

This law requires that healthcare facilities protect employees from blood borne health hazards. By law employers must follow these rules to reduce or eliminate the risk of exposure to infectious diseases. Employers must make sure the PPE is available in the appropriate sizes and is ready accessible. Employers must have biohazard containers available for disposal of sharps and other infectious waste. Employers must provide a free hepatitis B vaccine to all employees after hire💉🙌?
