have the pt clench their teeth and act like they are chewing; take a cotton swab and wipe across forehead

have the pt close their eyes and have them smell coffee, orange, cinnamon

have the pt read a menu; snellen chart

have the pt say "ah" and check for the movement of the uvula ; touch blade to the pharyngeal wall and access for gag reflex

have the pt smile, frown, lift eyebrows, puff out cheeks

pupil size, light reaction, accommodation
