Pelvic Cavity Viscera
Identify five bones that comprise the pelvic girdle.
1. Ilium 2. Ischium 3. Pubis 4. Sacrum 5. Coccyx
Be able to define ejaculatory duct
Each ejaculartory duct is a slender tube that arises by the union of the duct of a seminal gland with the ductus deferens
Define ductus deferens and trace it course.
The ductus deferens (vas deferens) is the continuation of the duct of the epididymis. The ductus deferens : 1.Begins in the tail of the epididymis the inferior pole of the testis 2.Ascends in the spermatic cord 3.Passes through the deep inguinal ring 4.Crosses over the external iliac vessels and enters the pelvis. 5.Passes along the lateral wall of the pelvis where it lies external to the parietal peritoneum. 6.Crosses superior to the ureter near the posterolateral angle of the bladder, running between the ureter and the peritoneum to reach the fundus of the urinary bladder. 7.Enlarges to form the ampulla of the ductus deferens. 8.Ends by joining the duct of the seminal gland to form the ejaculatory duct.
Define the pelvic fascia
The pelvic fascia is connective tissue that occupies the space between the membranous peritoneum and muscular pelvis walls and floor not occupied by pelvic organs. This layer is a continuation of the comparatively thin endoabdominal fascia that lies between the muscular abdominal walls and peritoneum superiorly.
What structure defines the fusion point of the three bones comprising the hip bones?
The three bones are pubis, ilium and ischium bones. The structure that defines is the acetabulum.
Describe the structure, location, and relations of the uterus. Define the terms anteflexed and anteverted as they relate to the uterus.
The uterus (womb) is a thick-walled, pear-shaped, hollow muscular organ. The nongravid (not pregnant) uterus usually lies in the lesser pelvis, with its body lying on the urinary bladder, and its cervix between the urinary bladder and the rectum. The adult uterus is usually anteverted (tipped anterosuperiorly relative to the axis of the vagina) and anteflexed (uterine body is flexed or bent anteriorly relative to the cervix) so that its mass lies over the bladder. The position of the uterus changes with the degree of fullness of the bladder and rectum.
Describe the parts of the uterus.
The uterus is divided into four parts: 1.Fundus is the rounded part of the uterus located superior and anterior to the plane of the orifices of the uterine tubes. 2.Body is the main part of the uterus located inferior to the fundus and superior to the isthmus. The uterine cavity is triangular in the coronal sections and is continuous with the lumina of the uterine tube and with the internal os. 3.Isthmus is the constricted part of the uterus located between the body and cervix of the uterus. It corresponds to the internal os. 4.Cervix is the inferior narrow part of the uterus located between the body into the vagina, and divides into the following regions: A.Internal os: the junction of the cervical canal with the uterine body B.Cervical canal: the cavity of the cervix between the internal and external ostia C.External os: the opening of the cervical canal into the vagina
Describe the structure, location, and relations of the vagina. Identify and describe the vaginal fornix. Describe the relation of the posterior fornix to the rectouterine pouch.
The vagina, a mostly subperitoneal musculomembranous tube, extends from the cervix of the uterus to the vestibule of the vagina. The superior end of the vagina surrounds the cervix of the uterus. The vagina: 1.Forms the inferior part of the birth canal 2.Communicates superiorly with cervical canal, and inferiorly with the vestibule. The vagina is usually collapsed, so its anterior and posterior walls are in contact, except at it superior end, where the cervix holds them apart. The vaginal fornix, the recess around the protruding cervix, is usually described as having anterior, posterior, and lateral parts. The posterior vaginal fornix is the deepest part and is closely related to teh rectouterine pouch.
Define the relationship of the cervix to the vagina and posterior fornix.
The vaginal fornix, the recess around the protruding cervix, is usually described as having anterior, posterior, and lateral parts. The posterior vaginal fornix is the deepest part and is closely related to teh rectouterine pouch.
