A good reference must include you working for them at some point in time, not a family member and someone who can speak favorably for you. Anyone who is close to you which you helped them work would be a good reference.

How does the economy (demand by consumers) affect jobs that are created or eliminated?

The better the economy is the more jobs which will be be created. If consumer spending is up the businesses will increase their product. The more product being bought will make the businesses want to supply more which then increases job opportunities. The inverse would apply for elimination of jobs.

Why is it important to do company research prior to a job interview?

The company research prior allows you to find information out about the companies culture, history, and achievements. This knowledge may help you better know and understand the company which results in a better chance of getting hired.

How do upgrading and retraining help you cope with change?

Upgrading and retraining both develop new skills and sharpen our abilities. This allows us to become more adaptable to change as our skillset will be varied and we will be able to jump into a different position more easily.

You have to try it out and understand the true struggles of being self-employed.

Data mining is extremely beneficial in analyzing data and obtaining useful knowledge. It allows companies to build models and products which there consumers may have the tendency to purchase. Data mining can also help companies determine where to place their product on the scale of money. Some disadvantages of data mining is people may be lacking privacy as their purchases are shared with other companies and businesses may be able to obtain security information which should not be shared.

How does technology affect careers and income?

It affects it in two ways. Workers with skills in technology based areas are more needed and those jobs are on the rise today. It also has an income effect which the workers and the use of technology increases demand for goods and services regarding technology which pay those better and make the economy better

It is the first and most important step in choosing or helping with career planning. Your interests, skills, achievements and values to an employer is critical in order to have a successful job search.

Why would a person choose to start a side business rather than a venture business?

People will start off with a side business before a venture business because venture businesses are often unreliable and not always pan out. Side businesses can be done while still maintaining a full time job and this can add extra income and even possibly turn out to become a full time job if it succeeds, there is no worry of going bankrupt or ruining your future.

What types of goals are needed to help direct your efforts in career planning? Give examples of each type of goal.

Short term goals are necessary to make rapid change and improvements. Intermediate goals are needed to make change in a period of time which can result in a promotion or job hiring. Long-term goals are necessary to make changes to better your future and what may come along with them. All goals are supposed to help motivate you.

Why would you do follow-up after a job interview? What might it involve?

The follow-up reassures that you are a strong candidate for the job and it will reinforce that you are qualified and should be given serious consideration. A thank you note and compliments regarding the company should be included and involved.

The longer and more education and experience which you obtain the better your soft skills and other on the job skills which you may need. You will also be more comfortable to interacting with those around you. These skills are needed to succeed in a work environment and by being strong in these areas you are more likely to get better opportunities and promotions as you perform better in your jobs.
