Photography Camera Settings
Camera shake
When you are trying to use a slow shutter speed and you cannot keep the camera still. You would use a tripod.
P mode
You set the ISO, camera set shutter speed and aperture according to the exposure meter
Exposure
Amount of light that reaches the film/light sensitive chip
Shutter speed 1/8 of a second
Aperture f/11
Shutter speed 1 second
Aperture f/32
Shutter speed 1 /30th of a second
Aperture setting F/5.6
Shutter speed one 1/125 of a second
Aperture setting f-stop 2.8
Shutter speed 1/60 of a second
Aperture setting f-stop f/4
Shutter speed 1/4 of a second
Aperture setting f/16
Shutter speed 1/2 of a second
Aperture setting f/22
Shutter speed 1/ 15th of a second
Aperture setting f/8
Film types (Traditional film)
Black and white negative, color negative, color positive, black-and-white positive
Lens aperture/F - stop
Controls the amount of light passing through the lens for correct exposure
Bracketed exposures/bracketing
Done when there are uncertain exposures due to an inaccurate light meter reading, taking three exposures of one shot
Deep depth of field
Everything in your picture is in focus
Three factors that affect the depth of field
F/stop, distance from the camera to the subject, focal length of the lens
Short depth of field
Foreground in focus background is blurry
Fast shutter speed
Freezes motion, not for use in darker venues.
Shutter
Metal blades in the camera that open/close, regulating how long light is permitted to pass through the lens
Small aperture
More depth of field
F - stop
Numerical value, indicates size of the lens aperture/controls how much light passes through a lens
Stops
Quantity of light, the lower the f-stop number, the larger lens opening is. The higher the f-stop the smaller the aperture lens is.
Depth of field
Range of sharp focus from foreground to background
File formats used for digital photos
Raw, tiff, JPEG, PSD
Aperture settings
Small aperture number 2.8 is a large opening, large aperture number is a small opening f-22
Modern cameras
Small, medium, large format film, digital
Short depth of field
Subject matter is in, focus the elements in the background are out of focus. Use a large aperture.
Shutter speed
The amount of time the shelter stays open to expose the film to the digital chip (F-Stop)
Light meter
This Measures the brightness of a scene to help determine the correct exposure
ISO
This measures the camera light sensitivity
Slow shutter speed
Used in settings with less light, Blur any movement within the scene
Aperture priority mode
User can select f-stop, camera automatically sets a shutter speed based on light meter reading, the rest of the settings are on auto.
Shutter priority mode
User can select shutter speed camera sets an F/stop based on light meter readings, the rest of the settings are on auto.
Manual mode
User sets up all settings on camera. Focus, shutter speed, aperture and ISO settings
Equivalent exposures
Using different f-stops and shutter speed combinations to expose the film to exact same amount up light
