What is the purpose of the Stator blades and where are they located?

The Stator blades help prevent engine power stalls and hung starts by redirecting and straightening the airflow in the high pressure group prior to the igniters.

What powers the FADEC system?

The permanent magnetic alternator (PMA)

What do TT2 and PT2 do, where are they and how are they Protected from icing?

They measure temperature and pressure in the engine inlet prior to N1 and provide the information to the FADEC system for engine operation. They are electrically heated when the Inlet IPS is turned on.

The engine blades are made of what material?

Titanium

What is the engine containment vessel made of?

Titanium.

What steps should be immediately taken in the event of an abnormal start?

Turn the engine knob to "off" and press and hold the "stop" button for 15-30 seconds to stop fuel flow and dry run the engine.

How many channels does the ignition have?

Two, A & B.

How many halon bottles are available for fire suppression?

Two.

How many Bleed Air ports are used and for what.

Two. One for pressurization/ environmental and one for ice protection.

What is the make, model and maximum thrust of the Vision Jet engine?

Williams FJ33-5A capable of producing 1846 lbs of thrust

What is the maximum tailwind and crosswind allowed for starting the engine?

15 knots and 25 knots respectively.

How long should the engine be allowed to Idle before shutdown?

2 minutes.

What is the oil capacity and recommended oil type.

2.2 quarts of Mobil Jet II

What is the minimum voltage for start?

23.5 volts

What are the amps of Gen 1 and Gen 2?

270 and 72 amps respectively.

What area should be cleared behind the jet prior to engine start?

35'x80'

What is the time limitation on MCT and what is recommended?

5 minutes limitation and 2 minutes is recommended.

Describe the engine fire detection system..

A Helium filled line wraps the engine and senses pressure due to temperature. A single point temperature of 1000 F (probably Engine Fire) or an average point temperature of 400 F (probably Bleed Air leak) will triggered fire detection.

What will cause an automatic engine shut down?

A loss or either N1, N2 or both FADEC channels.

Why is the engine considered a "Bypass" engine?

Because approximately 50% of the engine's thrust is through its high pressure core and 50% bypasses the core.

What are the three phases referred to with an engine fire

Detection, suppression and containment.

When are both ignition channels active?

During air starts.

FOD stands for what?

Foreign Object Damage.

What are considered to be the possible sources of fire?

Fuel, oil, electric and bleed air.

What engine operation items are part of the engine accessory package group?

Gen 1 (starter), Gen 2, oil pump and fuel pump..

What starts the turbine engine?

Gen 1 becomes the "starter" by engaging the tower shaft to the shaft N2 turning the High compression rotary group.

Which is lower, flight or ground idle and what activates it?

Ground idle is lower, activated by the WOW proximity switch.

What is the highest risk with a turbine engine?

Heat damage and high Interstate Turning Temperatures.

Where is the FADEC Start Disable Switch located?

In the cargo area.

Where is the Bleed Valve located?

In the high pressure section at the Stators.

Name the four sections of the engine.

Intake, Compression, Combustion, Expansion

Describe how many starts can be attempted in 30 minutes.

Max start time is 8 seconds. Start #1, 8 seconds and then wait 30 seconds for cool down. Start #2, 8 seconds and then let cool down for 5 minutes. Start #3, 8 seconds and then let cool down for 30 minutes.

What are the approximate maximum RPM's of the two rotary groups?

N1 is 22,500 rpm and N2 is 51,500 rpm.

Name the two rotary groups.

N1 is the low pressure rotary group and N2 is the high pressure rotary group.

What section is the accessory package connect to?

N2, high pressure group.

What are some typical start malfunctions?

No N2 rotation, failure to lite off in 8 seconds, no N1 rotation by 25% N2, hung start with N2 not exceeding 30%, hot start by ITT hitting red line and no oil pressure start.

The engine is mounted on what?

Pylons

How will the shaft separation detection system shut down the engine.

Shutting off the fuel control valve.

What is the sequence initiated by pushing the "start" button?

Supplies fuel through the electric fuel pump, engages the N2 tower shaft, at 7.2% N2 fuel and igniters are introduced until ITT is adequate to continue operation.

Fast thrust changes in the engine can result in what?

Surging and stalling of the turbine.

What is the purpose of the "Bleed Valve"?

The Bleed Valve relieves pressure prior to the high pressure section to help slow turbine speeds, surges in air flow and starting.

What system controls the engine's operation?

The FADEC or Full Authority Digital Engine Control System.

What engine measurement indicates the overall health of the engine during operations.

The ITT is the best indicator of engine health.

What is the minimum oil temperature?

-40 F
