Area sergeants will make calls to PRS to advise are unavailable to do so due to being assigned to an event , checked out for administrative duties , or when accordingly via telephone call of delays or cancellations unless they they do not have access to an MDT . In these instances , the dispatcher will make the call at the area sergeant's request . In custody events - The channel dispatcher will advise the area sergeant of all in - custody calls that hold in excess of 60 minutes . At that time , the area sergeant will make every attempt to have an officer enroute . If the call is still holding at 90 minutes , the area sergeant will contact the PR to advise of a delay in unit response and update the event accordingly via telephone call , radio broadcast , or MDT . At 90 minutes , unless emergency circumstances exist , the area sergeant will have an officer sent to the call . This will include the area sergeant requesting officers from a neighboring area command . These units may be requested to assist with other pending calls for service or to handle the in - custody call .
