Steps Bone Fracture Repair
Step 4 Bone Fracture Repair
Bone Remodeling of Callus: -Osteoclasts resorb dead portions of original bone fragments -Compact bone replaces spongy bone around fracture periphery -May not see repaired fracture on radiograph -Healed fracture evidenced by thickened area on surface of bone
Step 3 Bone Fracture Repair
Bony Callus Formation: -Fibrocartilaginous callus converted to spongy bone (bony callus) -Lasts 3-4 months
Step 2 Bone Fracture Repair
Fibrocartilaginous callus formation: -Fibrocartilaginous callus(mass of repair tissue consisting of collagen fibers and cartilage that bridges broken ends of bone) -Takes about 3 weeks
Step 1 Bone Fracture Repair
Formation of Fracture Hematoma: -Blood vessels crossing fracture line broken -Blood leaks out blood clot forms around site of fracture (fracture hematoma) -6-8 hours after injury(Possibly several weeks)
