According to the Make-Up Exam Policy, no deadline extensions or make-up exams will be given for any reason. If you miss an exam, you will receive a zero for that exam. Keep in mind that the lowest of the three exam scores will be dropped at the end of the semester. If you know that you will have a schedule conflict on the day the exam is due, you are encouraged to take the exam early. If you anticipate any problems in meeting the deadline, please notify the instructor at least one week prior to the date of the exam to make further arrangements.

Required readings, graphics, films, videos, and sound recordings will be posted on myPHSC. These materials are open-source and free of charge. You will be expected to perform a cinematic analysis of the film, Marie Antoinette (2006) directed by Sofia Coppola (127 minutes). This film is widely available online for a nominal rental fee. Please contact your instructor at least a week before the deadline if you anticipate any problems watching the film (see course schedule below). There is no textbook required for this course

Introduction to Humanities is an overview of the humanities with emphasis on the traditional elements of the various humanistic disciplines. Included is the study of the development of human creative expression from prehistoric times to the present. An emphasis is placed on the interrelationships of the arts and major artistic movements. Topics may include music, painting, sculpture, architecture, religion, philosophy, dance, drama, poetry, film and development of major ideas and ideals. Students may be asked to participate in or attend an event that expresses one or more of the humanistic disciplines.
