I embrace the athletes first and winning second. The athletes enjoy the sport, having mentally and physically healthy are things that are important. If those are not present, it can negatively affect the performance of the athlete.

1st- sending and receiving message 2nd- verbal and non-verbal messages 3rd- emotion To develop these skills i can understand what people are telling me, control my facial expressions and remaining neutral with my emotions in situations.

6 strategies to help build character in athletes are athletes 1st- winning 2nd- respect 3rd- encouraging team spirit 4th- not rewarding un-sportsmanship 5th- is encouraging questions 6th- rewarding sportsmanship

Chapter 4: What is character education? and why is it important? Do you believe character education is your responsibility as a coach?

Character education is teaching about judging what is right, caring what is right, and believing what is right. This is important because good character in sports can transition to non-sport related aspects in athletes lives. Yes, character building is part of the coaches responsibility.

Chapter 3: What is your coaching style? Can you see how the cooperative style fits with the athlete first, winning second philosophy? What aspects of your coaching methods would you have to change to become more of a cooperative style coach?

I feel the best coaching style for me is command. As a player, it is hard enough for me to focus on perfecting my craft so the less worry about decisions and the coach can handle it. However the cooperative style might be the best cause it allows better team atmosphere and players & coach can be on the same page.

Chapter 6: Do you use positive approach while coaching? What can you do to make your interactions with athletes positive?

I like to think I'm positive coach. I encourage asking questions while also showing respect using positive words when instructing athletes.

Chapter 6: What coaching communication style do you tend to adopt the most?

I tend to use cooperative communication as I like to be positive yet very realistic and straight forward when coaching.

I think my objectives are competitive with society. I believe my objectives are based off my own experiences of all levels of sports I participated in.

Chapter 5: What can you do to be a culturally responsive coach?

In order to be a culturally responsive coach you have to respect each culture and find time for the athletes to share their culture heritage in order to have an appreciation for culture diversity. Do mindful of imposing your own cultural heritage on the athletes. It's important to avoid discrimination from coaches and other athletes. It's beneficial to have and other athletes. It's beneficial to have parents from all cultures to be involved.

Chapter 3: How do you provide direction for your athletes? Do you focus on the steps that lead to winning as well as other goals?

In order to provide direction for a team you must first make a decision that is reasonability attainable. After doing this it is important to communicate the goal successfully and create enthusiasm for the players. It is important to appeal to the players values and goals. After you must repeat those goals through preparation.

Chapter 1: What is your level of self-esteem, and how does that affect your effectiveness as a coach?

My level os self-esteem is natural self, this affects my effectiveness as a coach because it gives a good balance of positive and negative selves.

Chapter 1: Do you know your self? How can you become more aware of who you are?

One can themselves. However, if one does not know there are ways to become aware of who you are. Answering questions such as, "Where am I going? Am I happy? or Why do I coach?"

Chapter 2: How does the emphasis on winning differ between recreational and competitive sports programs? Are your objectives compatible with the objectives of the sport program in which you coach?

Recreational sports generally are made up of people who enjoy playing the sport and want to still be a[art of it. Although it can be competitive it's primary focus is not all about winning. Competitive programs focus on purely winning. Athlete development will also be apart of the competitive program, but it is not the primary focus.

Chapter 5: What constitutes sexual harassment? How can you protect yourself from accusations of sexual harassment?

Sexual harassment is unwelcome sexual advances, request for sexual favors, or verbal or physical conduct in a sexual manor. To avoid intentional sexual harassment claims try to have others present when interacting with athletes and be careful about physical contact. Never try to avoid accusations, you have to listen and respect all accusations.

Sportsmanship is good character while participating in a sport

Chapter 3: What are the 3 coaching styles most coaches adopt?

The 3 styles are "command". where the coach makes all the decisions, athletes follow. Next is "submissive" where the coach makes very little decisions and steps in when needed. "cooperative" is the third and is when the coach looks to the team for decisions and allow athletes to have a role.

Chapter 3: What are the components of team culture? In what ways do you foster a positive team culture, and do you include your athletes in its creation?

The components if the team culture are team tradition, which a team that never quits, an attitude of fair play, a smart team, etc. The next is basic operating procedures which os how athletes are selected, rewarded, trained, practices and prepared. Next is management of info which is how info is managed from coaches to players. Nature of the sport is next which relates to the type of sport you are coaching. The next is power, which influences the status structure within the team which plays a role in the assistance coaches and athlete's involvement. This is y it's important to involve the players in the team culture.

Chapter 2: What priority do you give to winning. having fun, and helping athletes develop physically, psychologically, and socially?

The priority given to winning, having fun, and athlete's development depends in the level. At recreational youth level, having fun is first. Competitive sports level, such as college winning would be first. Development of the athletes would be first at middle school/high school level.

Chapter 4: Lis the 3 steps to teaching character and sportsmanship? How do you encourage sportsmanship among your athlete?

The steps in teaching character and sportsmanship are identify the principles of characters, teach the principles of character and provide opportunties to practice moral behavior.

Chapter 5: What are some key characteristics of early adolescents (11-14), middle adolescents(15-17), and late adolescents(18-21) that you should understand as a coach?

There are key characteristics that are important to understand as a coach. From ages 11-14, it's important to know puberty are common during this age group. This is also where they become aware of their body and develop values and the idea of teamwork. From ages 15-17, the athletes begin to adjust to sexual identify and are around pear pressure. From ages 18-21, athletes have self-knowledge and are independent by law. They set personal goals and relationships with others become important. As a coach it is important to be aware of these stages to successfully coach them.

Chapter 5: How do you best match athletes for safe practices and competition?

To best match athletes for safe practices and competition, you must match them by physical maturity to reduce injury. Then you must acknowledge that the biological clock is different for everyone so you must match them with people of similar abilities. Next, help the athletes who are no longer starts learn their roles on the team to help the team win.

Chapter 6: How do you develop creditability with your athletes?

To develop creditably with athletes you have to do knowledgeable, speak positively, speak with respect and be honest. This will lead to creditably from athletes to coaches.

Chapter 5; What are some ways of ensuring that you treat male and female athletes equally?

To ensure male and female athletes are being treated equal you must avoid phrases like "you hit like a girl", etc. Regardless of gender you have to get to know the athlete individually and coach accordingly. Provide a safe environment for all athletes. As a coach, enforce politics that stop anti-gay behavior using explanation. You can also enforce the organization to have a nondiscrimination policy prohibiting being biased.

Chapter 4: What can you do to model good character and moral behavior for your athletes?

To model good character and moral behavior I can be respectful to officials and opposing teams. I can also be a good citizen by doing community service or volunteering.

Your ideal self refers to the person you would like to be represents your values. Your public self is the image people have of you. Your real self is the sum of thoughts , feelings and needs that you see as authentic to you.

Chapter 1: What is a philosophy? What 2 things must you do to develop your coaching philosophy?

philosophy is the pursuit of wisdom and answer the fundamental questions of what, why, and how. Philosophies determine how we view objects and experiences along with the values we hold. The things you must develop your coaching philosophy are major objectives (things you want to achieve) and your beliefs and principles.
