Absolute Value?
ABSOLUTE VALUE IS HOW FAR A NUMBER IS FROM ZERO THE ABSOLUTE VALUE OF -9 IS 9. THINK OF ALL NUMBERS AS POSITIVES EVEN ZERO. I -7 I = 7MARKS SHOW YOU WANT TO ABSOLUTE VALUE DOESN'T MATTER WHICH WAY YOU SUBTRACT 8-3=5 ANDF 3-8=5 - I-12I = - 12 SINCE THE NEGATIVE IS OUTSIDE THE ABSOLUTE BRACKERS
A chart that use either horizontal or vertical bars to show comparisons among categories. One axis of the chart shows the specific categories being compared, and the other axis represents a discrete value.
Bar chart
No skew
Center point is highest
Perimeter of a circle
Circle Circumference = 2πr r = radius

pi, square root, e, golden ratio (cannot be written as a fraction)
Famous irrational numbers
It is similar to a Bar Chart, but a _____________ groups numbers into ranges And you decide what ranges to use!
Histogram
Change is something over time? What graph?
If you want to show a change in something over time, you would use a line plot.
Positive skew
Left side is higher
If you want to show a change in something over time, you would use a ___________________
Line plot
Rational numbers
Most numbers we use in everyday life are Rational Numbers. A Rational Number can be made by dividing two integers. (An integer is a number with no fractional part.)
12 / 6 × 3 / 2
Multiplication and Division rank equally, so just go left to right: First 12 / 6 = 2, then 2 × 3 = 6, then 6 / 2 = 3
3 + 6 × 2
Multiplication before Addition: First 6 × 2 = 12, then 3 + 12 = 15
Order of operation PEMDAS
P Parentheses first E Exponents (ie Powers and Square Roots, etc.) MD Multiplication and Division (left-to-right) AS Addition and Subtraction (left-to-right)
(3 + 6) × 2
Parentheses first: First (3 + 6) = 9, then 9 × 2 = 18
However, if the goal is to compare a given category (a slice of the pie) with the total (the whole pie) in a single chart and the multiple is close to 25 or 50 percent, then a _________________can often be more effective than a bar graph.
Pie chart
Perimeter of a quadrilateral
Quadrilateral Perimeter = a + b + c + d
Perimeter of rectangle
Rectangle Perimeter = 2 × (w + h) w = width h = height
Negative skew
Right side is higher
__________________show how much one variable is affected by another. The relationship between two variables is called their correlation.
Scatter plots
Perimeter of sector
Sector Perimeter = r(θ+2) r = radius θ = angle in radians
Perimeter of square
Square Perimeter = 4 × a a = length of side

Solving Proportions: Chef Rita is cooking for a Sunday brunch. She knows that 22 pancakes can feed 8 people. She is wondering how many people (p) she can feed with 55 pancakes. She assumes each person eats the same quantity of pancakes.
We're dealing with a proportional relationship, so each ratio of pancakes to people must be equivalent. 55 pancakes 22 Pancakes _______________________ = _________________________ p (People) 8 People 8x55=22xp 440=22p p=440/22 *divide both sides by 22 p=20 Rita can serve 20 people with 55 pancakes
