The signs used to indicate basic mathematical operations.

To take something away.

Reduced by a stated number.
times (prep)
Multiplied by.
multiply (v)
To add a number to itself a particular number of times.
divide (v)
To calculate the number of times that one number fits (exactly) into another.
pocket calculator
A small electronic device that is used for doing calculations.
plus (prep)
Added to.
whole number
Any of the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on.
key (n)
Any of the set of moving parts that you press with your fingers on a computer keyboard or a pocket calculator to produce letters, numbers, or symbols.
mathematical operation
Any operation like addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.
brackets (n)
Either of two symbols put around a word, phrase, or number to show that what is between them should be considered as separate from the main part.
result (n)
The answer to a calculation in mathematics.
division (n)
The calculation of how many times one number goes into another.
equal (v)
Used to say that one amount or number is the same as another (Two plus two ____s four.)
