Canonized Saint

Someone whom the Church has officially declared to be in heaven.

Canonized

A deceased Catholic's having been publicly and officially proclaimed a saint.

All Souls Day

A feast commemorating on November 2nd, the faithful departed.

Purgatory

A place of temporary suffering that cleanses the soul and makes us worthy to see God.

How can we turn to the saints for help?

Ask them to intercede with God for us just as we ask other members of the church on earth; we pray with them

why do people go to purgatory?

God wants people to be devoted to him and wants no trace of venial sins

When did the Church start devotion to the saints?

In the early days of the Church after the apostles died
