This bill introduced by Senator Stephen Douglas proposed that the Nebraska Territory be divided into two territories Kansas and Nebraska. The settlers living in each territory would settle the issue of slavery by popular sovereignty?

Who were Border Ruffians?

Border Ruffians passed into the border of Kansas illegally and also voted for proslavery legislative. People were now not allowed to talk againts slavery, if they did they would have to do hard labor for 2 years. Antislavery settlers refused to accept these lawws, as a result they elected their own governor and leislature. Soon Kansas was nothing but chaos.
