Anne/Mazarin used lit de justice to grant more taxes - demanded a gift from office holders equivalent to 4 years salary in return for a renewal of the paulette = abuse of crowns power

Condé seized control of Paris - Turenne lacked a strong army to oppose him - but Condé was deemed a traitor & went into exile & joined Spanish armies

Condé was invited back to France - became one of top nobles at court & a Marshal of French armies

Mazarin released princes of the blood & attempted to win their support - failed - march in Paris - Mazarin went into exile - successfully removing the unifying factor that bound frondeurs together - himself

Nobility demanded a meeting of the Estates General where they could ask for concessions to increase their powers -Maz did not give in - crushed Fronde of the Nobles using 6,000 German mercenaries

R reduced power of Parliament through edict stating that they had to register royal edicts immediately - move towards absolutist monarchy

Rebellion of Bordeaux continued until end of year

Treaty of Reuil - Mazarin gave into demands of Parlement - 27 Articles
