Non-Axial Joint

A -- does not move around an axis, instead; the articulating surfaces glide against each other.

Triaxial Joint

A -- moves in more than two planes, such as flexion/extension, abduction/adduction, and rotation.

Uniaxial Joint

A -- moves in one plane, such as flexion and extension.

Biaxial Joints

A -- moves in two planes, such as flexion/extension and abduction/adduction.

Gliding Joints

These are classified as non-axial joints and include the joints between the carpal bones, tarsal bones, and the posterior vertebral joints.
