Types of Synovial Joints
Non-Axial Joint
A -- does not move around an axis, instead; the articulating surfaces glide against each other.
Triaxial Joint
A -- moves in more than two planes, such as flexion/extension, abduction/adduction, and rotation.
Uniaxial Joint
A -- moves in one plane, such as flexion and extension.
Biaxial Joints
A -- moves in two planes, such as flexion/extension and abduction/adduction.
Gliding Joints
These are classified as non-axial joints and include the joints between the carpal bones, tarsal bones, and the posterior vertebral joints.
Ball and Socket Joints
These are triaxial joints
Hinge Joints
These are uniaxial joints.
