Anemometer

A anemometer has a measure on the side of it going by when the wind moves it measuring it. An anemometer spins around at the speed of the wind. Anemometer measures wind speed.

Barometer

A barometer is a tube filled with mercury upside down in a container filled with mercy. The barometer works by balancing the weight of mercury in the glass tube against the atmospheric pressure just like a set of scales. A barometer measures atmospheric pressure or so called air pressure.

Hygrometer

A hygrometer is a weather instrument that has a dry and wet bulb psychometric and a mechanical hygrometer. This type of hygrometer uses two basic mercury thermometers, one with a wet bulb one with a dry bulb. Evaporation from the water on the wet bulb causes its temperature reading to drop, causing it to show a lower temperature than the dry bulb. It measures humidity.

Radar

A radar is a that beam spreads out as it moves away from the radar station. A radar throws out beams that spread out from the radar station and it detects objects.

Rain Gauge

A rain gauge collects water from the area of the circular top of the funnel is 10 times that of the tube's cross section, so that one inch of water falling on the funnel will rise to 10 inches in the tube. The tube thus multiplies the height of the fallen water by 10, making it possible to measure small amounts of precipitation. The observer uses a ruler to measure the depth of the water in a small inner tube. A rain gauge measures precipitation.

Satellite

A satellite takes images from Earth. Allowing the satellite to measure the same location on the Earth twice each day at the same local time.

Sling Psychrometer

A sling psychometric has a dry bulb and a wet bulb. If the surrounding air is dry, more moisture evaporates from the wick, cooling the wet-bulb thermometer more so there is a greater difference between the temperatures of the two thermometers. If the surrounding air is holding as much moisture as possible. A sling psychometer measures relative humidity.

Thermometer

A thermometer moves up and down as the temperature moves. A thermometer checks the temperature by moving up and down. A thermometer checks the Fahrenheit and Celsius.

Weather Balloon

A weather balloon is a large balloon filled with Helium. A weather balloon goes into the air and comes back with measurements. Weather Balloon's measure atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity and wind speed.

Wind Vane

A wind vane turns when then wind blows in that direction. A wind vane moves in the direction the wind is moving and how fast it is. A wind vane measures wind strength and direction.

Wind Socks

These wind socks are made by drawing carp patterns on paper, cloth, or other objects. A windsock measures wind direction and relative wind speed.
