3rd Grade Matter
A gram is a unit used to measure mass of small objects. A kilogram is a unit used to measure larger objects. A triple beam balance can be a tool used to get the mass of a piece of matter
How is mass measured?
A liter is a unit used to measure a volume. A milliliter is also a unit used to measure smaller amounts of a volume. A beaker and a graduated cylinder are tools that can be used to measure the volume of matter.
How is volume measured?
Fruit salad, Lemonade, Milk and cereal in your bowl
What are examples of mixtures?
Solid, liquid and gas
What are the three states of matter?
Property
What is any characteristic of matter that you can observe?
Matter
What is anything that takes up space and has mass?
Mass
What is how much matter is in an object?
Volume
What is how much space an object takes up?
Solid
What is matter that has a definite size and shape?
Liquid
What is matter that has a definite volume? It does not have a definite shape. It takes the shape of the container.
Gas
What is matter that has no definite shape or volume? It will completely fill the container/ room.
Liquid
What type of matter is it when the particles are close together but they do not form a pattern? The particles are able to slide past one another.
Gas
What type of matter is it when the particles are not close together? They can spread out to fill a large container or squeeze together to fit into a small container.
Solid
What type of matter is it when the particles are packed closely together? They form a certain pattern that gives a definite shape.
Mixture
When you mix different kinds of matter together and the properties of each kind of matter do not change.
