How long is one of Earth's Rotations?

24 hours.

How long is one of Earth's Revolutions?

365.24 days

Revolution

The motion of one object around another object.

Solstice

A day when Earth's rotation axis is the most toward or away from the sun.

Equinox

A day when earths rotation axis is leaning along earth's orbit, neither toward nor away from the sun.

Rotation

A spinning motion.

How hot is the sun?

Core: 15,000,000 C Surface: 5,500 C

Which way does Earth rotate?

Counterclockwise from west to east

How does the Sun get energy?

From nuclear fusion (nuclei of atoms combine and release energy)

Which movement gives us years?

Revolution

Which movement gives us days?

Rotation

Why do the seasons change as earth moves around the sun?

Seasons change because Earth's motion around the sun changes how energy from the sun spread out over earth surface. Earth is tilted on its axis. The axis is always pointed in the same direction. Just at different points in it's orbit, the north end is tilted toward or away from the sun, causing seasons.

Why does it look like the sun is moving east to west?

The earth is moving west to east.

Why is the equator hotter than the poles?

The equator gets direct light from the sun ( meaning the light is not spread out) and therefore gets more energy. The poles get indirect light, which is more spread out, so they get less energy.

Why do we revolve around the sun?

The gravitational pull from the sun

Rotation axis

The line on which an object rotate.

Orbit

The path an object follows as it moves around another object.

What causes day and night?

The spinning of earth on its rotation axis in a counterclockwise direction from west to east causes day and night.

Sun's energy reaches Earth as what?

Thermal (heat) and Light (radiant) energy

How far away is the Earth from the sun?

about 150,000,000 km
