In 1834, years after Jackson vetoed the renewal of the charter for the National Bank and after the 1831 meeting with his cabinet generated classified documents regarding Jackson's veto of the Bank. Soon after, Congress censured Jackson for refusing to turn over these documents.

Andrew Jackson vetoed the National Bank's recharter bill because he believed that the second bank of the US only made the "rich richer", filled government offices with his supporters, and allowed white men-- not needing to own land-- to vote so that more people could influence elections.

Jackson was a symbol of the emerging middle class. He was a self-made man and a war hero. He had the support of every social group in every part of the country. He represented all people and was the protector of the common man against the rich and privileged.

One perspective that the artist depicted was that Andrew Jackson abused rules, similar to a monarch ruling. He abused his power of the veto specifically to hurt Henry Clay; including a veto against the renewal of the National Bank in 1832. Jackson also abused his executive power by not enforcing the court ruling during Worcester v. Georgia by John Marshall.

The Indian Removal of 1830 supports the artist's view. Jackson's concept of democracy did not extend to Native Americans and he believed the most humane solution was to force the Native Americans to leave their homes. He signed the Indian Removal Act which forced them to resettle. The Native Americans gained a lawyer and fought the US in Worcester v. Georgia; John Marshall ruled in favor of the Native Americans due to the unconstitutional behavior of the Indian Removal Act. Jackson refused to enforce the ruling, therefore supporting the artist's view as well.

The election of 1828 showed a growing role of personal attacks in politics. The election of 1828 was between John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson, based on mudslinging. Adams told the press about Jackson's wife failing to get a divorce from her previous marriage before marrying Jackson. Jackson vengefully told the press that Adams used federal money to buy prostitutes for foreign dignitaries.
