Payne-Aldrich Bill
While intended to lower tariff rates, this bill was eventually revised beyond all recognition, retaining high rates on most imports. President Taft angered the progressive wing of his party when he declared it "the best bill that the Republican party ever passed."

Pinchot-Ballinger
It pitted Chief Forester Gillford Pinchot against Secretary of the Interior Richard A. Ballinger. Pinchot, a chum of Roosevelt's, accused Ballinger of plotting to transfer source-rich Alaskan land to a private business group. When Pinchot aired these charges, Taft fired him for insubordination. The affair marked Taft among progressives as a friend of the "interest" bent on plundering the nation's resource.

27th President of the United States, strict constructionist who wanted to be on the Supreme Court, but Roosevelt picked him to be the Republican Candidate. Taft went opposite on Roosevelt's policies so much so that Teddy wanted to run again in 1912

16th amendment
Authorized the collection of income tax. This made the rich pay their fair share to the government as well as allowing the Underwood-Simmons Tariff of 1913 to lower many tariffs
