Rotating Nosepiece
A support structure that holds and allows the four objective lenses to be rotated in place. Needs to CLICK
Ocular
Aka the eyepiece. It has a magnification of 10X and it is labeled as such.
Mechanical stage
Slide movements can be controlled by two knobs located below the stage. These control knobs allow the slide to be moved from side-to-side and up-and-down.
Field of view
The circle of light that is visible through the ocular of the microscope.
Depth of field
The need to focus several times because what is visible at one depth is not always visible at another.
Stage
The platform where then slide is placed.
Slide caliper/stage clips
The slide is placed inside the caliper/clips and secured in position.
Parcentric
This means that an object in the center of the field of view at one magnification is in the center of the field of view at any of the other magnifications. ex) Microscopes are designed to be parcentric.
Parfocal
This means that the focus for each lens is very similar. ex) Microscopes are designed to be parfocal.
