In a container similar to a thermos, since at extremely cold temperatures, oxygen changes from gas to liquid.

How should dentures be stored?

In a denture cup with cool water overnight in a safe place.

How should you store hearing aids when they are not in use?

In the case that is labeled with the residents name. If no case is available use a clean denture cup.

A device that uses two prongs to deliver O2 throught the patients nostrils. W/ a flow rate of 1 - 6 lpm the nasal cannula can deliver 24-44% O2 concentration.

Vaporizor

A device that works by heating water until it turns into steam. Must be kept clean to prevent germs

Ventilator

A machine that supports breathing for people who can't breathe independently.

How often should a resident brush their dentures?

At least daily

How often should the nostrils be cleaned for a resident on a nasal cannula?

At least once per shift and check for skin irritation

How often should TED hose be removed from a resident?

At least twice daily for skin care unless otherwise indicated by physician

List 4 safety precautions when working with oxygen.

1. Remove fire hazards from room, never allow candles, open flames or smoking. 2. Don't use electrical equipment, a spark from electrical equipment can cause a fire 3. Don't use flammable products such as rubbing alcohol or oil-based products such as Vaseline near oxygen 4. Nursing Assistants should know how to turn off oxygen ONLY in the case of a fire or other disaster situation.

Explain the procedure for how to put TED hose on a resident.

1. Apply the hose before the resident gets out of bed 2. Hold heel of stocking and gather the rest in your hand turning hose inside out to mid foot area 3. Support foot at the heel and slip front of the stocking over the toes, foot, and heel. 4. Pull the stocking up until fully extended 5. Smooth away any wrinkles or twisted areas

List 5 things the nursing assistant should remember when caring for a resident with an amputation.

1. Keep the skin under the device clean and dry 2. Check the skin on the stump for signs of pressure/irritation, i.e. redness, warmth, swelling, tenderness, and skin breakdown. Report finding to nurse 3. Refer to the care plan and assignment sheet for instructions concerning applying, removing, and care of the prosthesis. 4. The prosthesis is specially made for and fitted to the resident, so it will be expensive. Show respect and concern when handling it. 5. If resident refuses to wear the prosthesis, respect their right and report to the nurse.
