What is designated by $?

"$" sign, when placed at the end of a share name, hides the share from public access. This is also called an ADMINISTRATIVE share.

What is CD ?

"Change Directory". Command C D moves or changes the position of the current directory. It is also entered as C H D I R .

What is the "convert" command for?

"Convert" is to change a FAT32 drive into an N T F S drive. This is a one way operation, and can not be reversed. There are some dangers involved.

What is MD ?

"Make Directory". Command M D is also entered as M K D I R .

What is RD ?

"Remove Directory". Command R D removes or deletes a directory; and is also entered as RMDIR .

What is CHKNTFS?

CHKNTFS is a command utility that displays or modifies automatic HDD checking when the computer is started

What is the NET command?

Command Prompt command that can be used to manage almost every aspect of a network and its settings including managing network shares, network print jobs, network users, and much more.

What is SFC/SCANNOW ?

Command SFC/SCANNOW is "System File Checker / Scan now". It will scan all system files and replace damaged or incorrect ones with the correct Microsoft versions.

The NET USER command is used to add, delete, and otherwise manage the users on a computer.

The net use command is used to display network shared resources, as well as connect or map & disconnect to new resources

How can hidden or administrative shares be seen?

To see hidden shares, focus the command prompt on the drive you wish to see and type NET SHARE. This will display all shares in that drive.

NetStat is a command line used to display very detailed information about how your computer is communicating with other computers or network devices.

How is CHKNTFS related to CHKDSK?

Using the option switches, CHK DSK can be run automatically if any areas of the HDD are found to be "dirty".
