Enrollment Information

Attendance: Students are expected to attend every class meeting for the duration of the scheduled class time. The success of your learning experience depends on the active contributions of everyone; therefore, your attendance and participation are vital to your success in this class. We will be having group discussions in class, so make sure you are being a helpful and respectful group member. Coming to class late or leaving early may be counted as an absence. If you do arrive late to class it is your responsibility to notify me that you are in class. Students will be penalized 3 points for each absence. Students who miss the first-class meeting will be dropped. "Sleepers" will be dismissed from the class and will be counted absent. Two absences will result in receiving an F in the class and/or being dropped from the class. Being tardy or leaving early three times, or more will result in receiving an 'F', and/or being dropped in the course. We will have a break during class and I will take roll once we get back. Being absent or late for the second half of class can result in you being marked absent for the day, or tardy. Drop Policy: Students are responsible for any fees incurred and grades received. It is the student's responsibility to drop classes by the State mandated refund deadline to ensure cancellation of fees, to be eligible for a refund and to avoid fee obligations. Students MUST print a student class program (available via MyCoast portal) to verify all withdrawals. Makeups: Students with verifiable excused absences can make up a version of exams or turn in an assignment at an arranged time. No make-ups will be given for unexcused absences unless the student makes arrangements before the date of the absence. For the final exam, you MUST take your final at the schedule date and time. If your absence is excused, you must bring verifiable documentation for the absence by the following class period. No documentation will be accepted after the subsequent class period. Excused absences include doctor verified illness, and deaths or grave illnesses in your immediate family verified by signed paperwork form the funeral home or hospital with adequate contact information. Excused absences must be clearly labeled with the date of the absence and student name. "Sleepers" will be dismissed from the class and will be counted absent. Recording I intend to provide a safe learning environment for all students, and thus you may not record lectures in anyway. California law also prohibits recording of any kind in the classroom. You are prohibited from take pictures or video of the board, me, your classmates, or the classroom during my class. You are also prohibited from audio recording my class. Participation In addition to attending class, you are expected to actively participate in all classroom activities and discussions. During presentations you are expected to be good audience members. If you are on your cell phone, sleeping, have your head down, working on other class work, talking, doodling, etc. during class, you will be marked absent for the day, and you will lose participation points in the class. Academic Honesty Orange Coast College has the responsibility to ensure that grades assigned are indicative of the knowledge and skill level of each student. Acts of academic dishonesty make it impossible to fulfill this responsibility and weaken our society. Faculty have a responsibility to ensure that academic honesty is maintained in their classroom. Students share that responsibility and are expected to refrain from all acts of academic dishonesty. Procedures for dealing with any violation of academic honesty will be followed. Additionally, the Student Code of Conduct (Links to an external site.) and Disciplinary Procedure shall be applied to incidents of academic dishonesty. Examples of Plagiarism include but are not limited to: Using sources verbatim or paraphrasing without giving proper attribution (this can include phrases, sentences, paragraphs and/or pages of work) Copying and pasting work from an online or offline source directly and calling it your own Using information that you find from an online or offline source without giving the author credit Replacing words or phrases from another source and inserting your own words or phrases Submitting a piece of work that you did for one class to another class
