How to describe decimal models with decimals to the hundredths place
Think about how we write dollars. If we have $1.23, then we have one dollar, which is equal to 100 pennies, plus two dimes, which are equal to twenty pennies, plus three more pennies. The dollars represent the ones place, the dimes represent tenths of a dollar, and the pennies represent hundreths of a dollar. Thus, 1.23 means we have a one, plus two tenths, plus 3 one-hundreths.

This large square represents a whole, or one. It is divided into one hundred little tiny squares, each of which is called a "hundredth" . We can pretend that it is one dollar, and that the tiny little squares are pennies. There are 60 colored hundreth squares, and a total of 100 altogether. So this is written as 0.60, which means no ones, plus 6 tenths of a one. Each vertical bar of ten hundredths is a tenth of a one. If this were money, it would be $0.60, and you would see six dimes or 60 pennies. If you were writing a fraction, it would be 60/100.
