Developing an Instructional Management System:

For organizing groups, consider the following:

- Which students need additional instruction and in what areas? - What are their specific instructional needs in these areas? - How much progress are we making in addressing these needs? - How effective is the additional instructional across students? - Use materials that match reading levels of students - Design skills-focused lessons that include student engagement - Change instructional content and types of lesson structures and activities as needed.

Tier 2: Supplemental Instruction

Designed to meet the needs of these students by providing them with additional small-group reading instruction daily - More complex and targeted instruction - Small groups, formed and reformed - One group with teacher while others are involved in MEANINGFUL literacy activities - Enrichment when at/near grade level - Reteach for those who are struggling

Tier 3: Instruction for Intensive Intervention

Provides instruction that is more explicit, more intensive, and specifically designed to meet their individual needs - More responsive - More temporary - More flexible
