"To Build a Fire" by Jack London

A man travels in the Yukon (near the border of current day Alaska) on an extremely cold morning with a husky wolf-dog. He sets out a brisk pace and expects to meet his friends at the cabin by 6, however it is colder that he expected and this complicates things. After building himself a fire, and eating lunch he falls through the snow and wets himself up to his shins. He then builds a fire to warm himself, and his now wet clothing. However he build his fire under a tree and soon enough the snow falls and the fire is put out. The man has to rebuild the fire, but this time it is much harder due to his frozen hands. He tries to light a match and instead sets 70 on fire. The situation turns dismal as he thinks of killing the dog to save himself, he tries to run to safety but falls and drifts to a never ending sleep.
