Secure airway first - Once the airway is stable, antibiotics (ceftriaxone) can be used to treat the infection, and intravenous steroids can be used to decrease the swelling from the immune response. Immunization against H. influenze type b can be used to prevent that bacteria from causing epiglottitis in the first place.
