-Great grass and soil for farming -As you progress from East to West the climate and soil becomes much drier

-About 1/3 of the battles that occurred during the Revolutionary War took place on the river's shores (this steered settlers away)
How did the Hudson River effect settlement patterns?
-Made trade and shipping much easier and convenient. -Allowed for a mode of navigation -Provided fertile soil for farming
How did the Mississippi River affect settlement patterns?
-Provided a mode of transportation -Provided the ability for irrigated agriculture (which was much needed considering the rocky and dry terrain this landmark passes through)
How did the Missouri River affect settlement patterns?
-Provided shipment of oil and manufactured goods to be sent downstream to the Mississippi

-Made communication and transportation much more difficult (Mail had to travel over mountains)
