Jordan Baker is a friend of Daisy's. Nick finds her appealing because she is self-sufficient.

Nick comes from a prominent family and is fairly smart for he graduated from Yale. He seems to be a kind, non-judgmental person. I think he will tell the story honestly and from a justified point of view.

Why has Nick come to the East?

Nick went to the East because he said the MIddle West which is where he used to live was "the ragged edge of the universe". He did not seem to enjoy where he was living anymore and he was interested in starting a life of his own somewhere else.

3. How does Nick describe Tom Buchanan? What do we learn about Tom based on the book he is reading?

Tom is aggressive, arrogant, and wealthy. He thinks he can sound smart if he reads complicated books with long words in them and that people will think he's smart if they see him reading that.

Nick starts the novel by relaying his father's advice: "Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had." What advantages has Nick had? Does he effectively reserve judgement?

he had a 3 generation family, well educated and wealth and he father tells him not to judge because not everyone has what he says.

How does Daisy react to the phone calls from Tom's woman in New York?
