A placenta was describe as a pancake - a shaped organ thats connected to the inside of the uterus and is attached to the fetus by the umbilical cord. The placenta makes pregnancy similar to hormones, including (hCG) chorionic gonadotropin , progesterone, and estrogen. The sperm and egg connect in the fallopian tube and fertilization has occurred. A resulting cell is called a zygote of a single sperm penetrates the mother egg cell. To become a child the zygote contains all of the genetic information such as (DNA) necessary.

Second Trimester. During the second trimester, body features become apparent. The nose, mouth, and eyes are distinguishable. Arms and legs develop hands and feet. The continued development of the body systems makes movement within the uterus possible. Many children begin the habit of sucking their thumbs while in the womb! At the end of the sixth month, the fetus is about 12 inches long and weighs about 1-1/2 pounds.
Describe briefly what happens during the third trimester.
Third Trimester. During the third trimester, the body organs are developed and refined to prepare the child for survival outside the womb. During this period, the development of the respiratory system is very important. Babies that are born prematurely (well before the end of the third trimester) usually have respiratory problems. They must be kept in special incubators until their respiratory system is fully developed. When the child has reached full term, he or she is approximately 20 inches long and weighs about 7 pounds.
