There are three different ways to stretch a muscle group. Can you name what these are?

the muscle shortens under tension (natural movement).

What are concentric contractions

the muscle lengthens under tension.

What are eccentric isotonic contractions?

An improved appearance can make you feel more confident. Increased strength gives you confidence to try out a variety of other sporting and leisure activities (e.g, rock climbing, martial arts).

What are some other health benefits of resistance training?

Isometric movements involve no lengthening or shortening of the muscle.

What is an isometric contraction?

A muscle contracts and changes length (gets shorter or longer).

What is an isotonic contraction?

PNF stretching involves contracting the muscle to be stretched before stretching it. While this stretch is being held, a contraction of the opposing muscle is performed (e.g., if the hamstrings are being stretched, contract the quadriceps).

What is meant by the term PNF stretching?

is an increase in size of the muscle fibers.

What is meant by the term hypertrophy?

Muscle-bound describes a person who is very muscular, but this acts as a detriment to speed and flexibility.

What is meant by the term muscle-bound?

Muscles can work for long periods before becoming fatigued. This happens because the energy systems of your muscle cells are improved.

What is meant by the term muscular endurance?

Stretching exercises normally involve stationary movements (standing or sitting and stretching a specific muscle group). Range of motion exercises involve moving the legs or arms through normal movements for a joint but may not stretch the muscles.

What is the difference between range of motion and stretching exercises?

If you do not do flexibility exercises and do only strength exercises this will lead to decreased range of motion. this condition is sometimes called being muscle-bound.

What is the problem with doing little or no flexibility exercises but lots of muscle strengthening exercises?

Stretching short muscles helps improve posture. Good posture helps prevent or relieve back pain and reduces fatigue. Flexibility helps reduce risk of injury. For elderly people, flexibility helps prevent joint aches and pains.

What specific health and wellness benefits do stretching exercises provide?

hypermobility

When a person is unusually flexible in certain joints
