As a high school senior in 1957, she follows the news of Little Rock and Sputnik closely, and these events help galvanize her dedication to American scientific and technological progress and to civil rights. She graduates from a master's program at Virginia State University with a plan to apply for professorships at Hampton Institute.
Dorothy Hoover
Dorothy Hoover is a black aeronautical research scientist in Langley's Stability Analysis Division and one of the first women at Langley to publish research papers.
Dorothy Vaughan
First African American woman supervisor at NASA strong-minded, black mathematician who joins Langley as a human computer in 1943 and then works her way up to become the organization's first black section head. She is extremely pragmatic and fiercely devoted to her church and her children. Her husband Howard worked at the greenbrier in WV, among other hotels. worried she will be replaced by electronic computers, she teaches herself FORTRAN and encourages other computers to do the same.

Katherine Goble. ... her job, her Homelife, what she thought about her job. (essay??)
Job: Katherine worked in the Maneuver Loads Branch of the "1244"/ Flight REsearch Division. She once was asked to review the flight recorder data of a plane that crashed. She discovered the plane had crashed because of its closeness to another plane. This discovery led to air traffic regulation. Katherine felt tremendous satisfaction in being involved in real world impact to peoples' safety. How she felt about job: Couldn't believe her good fortune, getting paid to do math. homelife: loved and was close with husband Jimmy and daughters. They had a vision for their girls' success. Jimmy died. Katherine stayed true to driving the girls to success. When girls returned to school after their dad's death, Katherine told them not to give them special treatment.
Katherine Gobel
Johnson worked as a math teacher and briefly pursued graduate study in mathematics before joining NACA as a computer under Dorothy Vaughan.
Jimmy Gobel
Katherine's husband and father to their daughters. He becomes ill and dies, leaving Katherine a widow at 37 or 39??
Mary Jackson
Mary Jackson works as a teacher and a USO secretary before taking a job as a computer at the NACA. She is extremely bright, and she finds herself frustrated when the intelligence that landed her a job at Langley doesn't shield her from discrimination at the hands of her white colleagues regarding the bathroom incident. She expresses frustration to Kaz Czarnecki and he gives her a job. She also led girl scouts and always told them they could be anything they wanted to be.
Why was Christine so worried when Brown v. Board of Education was passed?
She feared that as blacks, they would not be good enough or smart enough to sit next to whites in a classroom and succeed. She, like most blacks, had grown comfortable with being separate/segregrated.
Why was Mary Jackson so upset about the bathroom situation?
She felt humiliated. She thought at Langley she would be free of the prejudice. The white women's laughter made her feel like a second class human being, not a professional mathemetician (which she had earned the title)
"You are no better than anyone else and no one is better than you". explain what this quote means. (essay??)
This is a quote from Katherine Goble's father and a reflection on how she was raised. It was a reminder that she should not just command equal treatment for herself, but also to extend it to others. Also, Katherine was brilliant and it would have been easy for her to look down on those who weren't as smart as her. And, because she was black, others could easily look down upon her. This quote reminded her to resist accepting or doing either.
What job was Dorothy Vaughn going to give Katherine Goble?
Upon starting at NACA, Dorothy sent Katherine on temporary assignment in the Flight REsearch Division or "1244". After 6 months of temporary, Dorothy went to the division head and said, you hire her or i take her back. He did hire Katherine and gave her a payraise. If he had not, Dorothy would have made her a permanent employee of West Computing.
