Treaty of Paris

Spain surrendered all rights to Cuba and assumed Cuban debt. Puerto Rico and Guam were given to the U.S. The U.S. will pay $20 million for the annexation of the Philippines.

Platt Amendment

States that Cubans must have a Constitution and sign the Platt Amendment. This is significant because it states Cuba could not make treaties, the U.S. reserved the right to intervene in Cuba, Cuba could not go into debt it could not repay, and the U.S. could buy or lease land on the island.

Teller Amendment

States the U.S. will not seek control of Cuba. This is significant because Cuba is officially independent but will become an United States Protectorate. But the U.S. military would occupy Cuba and provide food, clothing, schools, hospitals, and help with malaria and yellow fever.
