Important Personalities during the Holy Prophet's Lifetime
Abu Hurairah
•Accepted Islam in 7 A.H. •Had an outstanding position among the Ahl-e-Suffah. •Had the most hadis reported. •Never fOrgOT anything he heard the Prophet say. •Had no wealth and spent his days with the Prophet. •Gave lessons in Mashid-e-Nabawi after the Prophet's death. •Appointed as governer of Bahrain byHazrat Umar but he resigned. •Died in 57 A.H.
Hazrat Abu Zara Ghaffari
•Accepted faith without any hesitation. •After accepting, he went to the Kaaba. He recited the Kalimantan loudly and was beaten by the unbelievers. •He decides to preach Islam in this tribe. Half the people accepted.. the rest became Muslims after the Prophet migrated from Makkah to Madinah. •He migrated to Madinah after the Battle of Trench. •After the Prophet's death, he left Madinah and settled in Syria.
Anas bin Malik
•Belonged to the Khazraj tribe. •Born 10 years before the migration of the Holy Prophet to Madinah. •His father had asked the Prophet to take care of Anas. •Hazrat Abu Baker sent him to Bahrain to oversee the government work there. •Hazrat Umar sent him to Basra for educating people. •Died in 93.A.H. •Last of the Holy Prophet's companion to die.
Abu Musa Ashari
•Embraced Islam with his tribe when he migrated to Madinah from Yemen. •Took part in the Battle of Hunain. •The Prophet sent him as governor to Yemen. •Hazrat Umar appointed him as governor of Kufa. •Died in 44 A.H. at Makkah.
Hazrat Salman Farsi
•From Persia. •Gave up comfort to wander in conquest of the true religion. •Took part in the battle of Trench and every other one. •At his suggestion trenches were dug at the borders of Madinah during the Battle of Trench. •Hazrat Umar made him the governer of Madain. •Died during the khalifat of Hazrat Usman.
Abu Ayub Ansari
•Khazraj tribe. •Embraced Islam at the second pledge of Aqabah. •Served under the command of Amr bin Aas during the conquest of Egypt. •During the rule of Ameer Muawiyah, he took part in the invasion of Cyprus. •Died in 50 A.H.
Abu Sufyan
•Leader of the Banu Umayyah. •Rich and respected merchant who led caravans for trade. •Enemy of the Prophet from the 40th to the 60th year. •His daughter first married a Muslim and emigrated with him to Abyssinia. Later he converted to Christianity and married the Prophet. •Fought against the Muslims in the battle did Uhad and Trench. Took part in the siege of Taif. •Died at 88 in 31 A.H.
Hazrat Bilal
•Most trusted and a loyal companion of the Holy Prophet. •Slave of Abyssinian origin. His master would make him lie on the scorching sand of the desert with a huge stone on his chest and he would still say, "Ahad, Ahad"—"Allah is one, Allah is one." •Hazrat AbuBakr bought him and set him free. •Migrated to Madinah. The Prophet chose him to deliver the Azan from Masjid-e-Nabawi. •Killed his former master in the battle of Badr. •Entrusted with the public treasury by the Prophet. •Died in Damascus and buried there.
Mu'az bin Jabal
•Offered allegiance to the Prophet at the second pledge of Aqabah. •Participated in all battles. •learnt the Quran directly from the Prophet. •Returned from Yemen during the Khilafat of Hazrat Abu Bakr and accompanied Usamah bin Zaid while he was in Syria. •Died of plague in 18 A.H. In Syria
Amar bin Aas
•One of the chiefs of the Quraish before he accepted Islam. •Real fame due to the conquest of Egypt. •Died in Egypt in 51 A.H.
Abu Talib
•Paternal uncle of the Holy Prophet. •Asked his tribe to protect the Prophet against the Quraish.
Hazrat Jafar bin Abu Talib
•Son of Abu Talib and the elder brother of Hazrat Ali. •Second batch of emigrants to Abyssinia. •Delivered a speech to the Kind of Abyssinia, Najashi, and recited a portion of Syrah Mariam. •Migrated to Abyssinia in 5 A.H. Returned to Madinah in 7 A.H when Khyber was conquered. •The Holy Prophet gave him a piece of land near Masjid-e-Nabawi and kept him close. •Included in the army that was sent to Mira in Syria in 8 A.H. •Hazrat Zaid bin Haris was the commander of the army. He was to be succeeded by him. •Martyred there. •Called Jafar Tatar/Jafar the flier. •Known as Abul Masakeen.
Abdullah bin Umar
•Son of Hazrat Umar. •Born in the third year of the Prophethood. •Took part in the battle of Ditch and all other battles. •Careful. Cried when reciting the Quran. •Second most reported hadis. 1630.
Usamah bin Zaid
•Son of Zaid bin Haris. •Born in Makkah in the third year of Prophethood. •Usamah took part in the battles of Ditch, Khyber and Hunain. •He was sent to Syria as the commander of the Muslim forces by the first Khalifa, Hazrat Abu Bakr. •Died at the age of 54.
Hazrat Hamza
•The Prophet's uncle and his foster brother. •Was dons of hunting and wrestling. •Pounced on Abu Jahl when he heard about him harassed the Prophet in the Kaaba. •Second years of the Hijrat, the Prophet sent 30 people to check the caravan of the non-believers of Makkah under the command of Hazrat Hamza. •Died in the battle of Uhad. •Hinda, whose father was killed by him, cut out the liver and tried to chew it. Then cut off the nose and ears of the dead body and made necklace of them. •Title: 'Chief of the Martyrs'
