Tell me about advantage and disadvantage in your life.

Advantage: my fortunate life my parents have provided for me: access to (paid for) private education, test prep, travel sports, vacations, any opportunity I wanted to pursue I could Disadvantage: this fortunate lifestyle has shielded me from the reality of many people's lives: poverty, food insecurity, no access to healthcare. Didn't exactly realize how many people face these issues every day. MPH helped show me the reality of this and how I can use my position to help

One thing that sets you apart from other applicants/Why should we choose you?

What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?

Strengths: detail oriented, empathetic, my big heart, strong work ethic, Weaknesses: public speaking, perfectionism, caring too much (people pleaser)

What kind of doctor will you be?

The kind of doctor that I looked up to when I was child(my pediatrician, mom's oncologist FIRST SHADOW) Truly listens, take into account all aspects of a patient, then produce best avenue of care for them Key: making my patients feel heard, respected, and understood. Describe bad experiences: some doctors don't really listen, just spit out a spiel and move on, not really helping

When is a time that you've shown outstanding leadership skills?

Rather than a great experience of being a leader, I have had many small roles where I have been able to lead Training people at work, leading group projects, completing and presenting my MPH internship project, being a mentor for CMDA

What makes a good leader?

Respect Helping people feel heard Confidence strength

Do you view healthcare as a right or as a privilege? Explain why for either side

Right: quality of life, free from unnecessary disease and hardship, equality Public health: fighting for the health of communities, access to healthcare is essential to this Many organizations have recognized this (UN)

Why not PA/NP

To have a deeper understanding of my chosen field, can only be achieved by going to medical school Understand the biological mechanisms behind a patient's diagnoses rather than simply treating their symptoms More autonomy in my role, and ability to pursue leadership options

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

working in my role as a pediatrician working with at-risk populations Doctors without Borders and work abroad in rural areas utilizing my MPH working in a leadership capacity with a public health organization

Why did you choose medicine/What excites you about medicine?

Being able to use what I love (biology, anatomy, impacting lives) to help others It aligns so well with who I am (naturally) and how I want to make an impact on my community Ever evolving nature of the field, new technology and treatments being pursued always Intersection with different disciplines: ethics, technology, public health Collaborative nature

What are your thoughts about your GPA.

Could be better Why? Tough transition, took me longer to adjust to college, COVID led to issues with being able to succeed, upward trend, thriving in Masters

I have double-jointed elbows, I am currently teaching myself Spanish, I've never broken a bone

Interests: Public health, specifically rural (reference internship), travelling, sports Family and cats Adventerous, curious, driven

What's your favorite book and why?

Midnight library by matt haig Nora tried to off herself, goes to the library, each book an alternate choice she made in her life. Life doesnt have to be perfect to be meaningful. Life is a journey full of happiness, sadness, and regret. OR Pride and prejudice by Jane Austen Amazing story telling Elizabeth: witty, intelligent, unashamedly herself chalenges norms of the time, fighting stigma against women Written long ago, but still applicable today

Tell me about your most meaningful experience.

Nepal: learned more than i thought possible in a few weeks. Not only gained insight into medicine and how that looks in third world countries, but also learned so much about myself, what kind of doctor I want to be, how I want to treat my patients. Also religion aspect: reunited with God, saw HIm wokring through others to reach me

Not properly preparing for my transition to college Learned how to adapt under stress, determination when facing a challenge

Why DO?

This type of education will set me up for success in the medical field. My wider understanding can help me better treat my patients OMM: really like concept Focus on whole person: learned importance of this in masters program Combination of modern medicine while still focusing on the interconnectedness of body, mind, spirit Katie inspired me Recognizing body's natural abilities to heal and thrive, preventative medicine (religion)
