However, when the gigantic dam was built, thousands of inhabitants around the Yangze River had to leave their hometown behind - However, the concept of collective good becomes problematic when a government is completely indifferent to the basic right of its citizens, especially the minority groups. - abstract notion of collective good is often misused by dictatorship to legitimise their wrongdoings, such as in the case of the Soviet Union -The notion of a greater good is also extremely abstract and subject to multiple interpretations, some of which damage the wellbeing of its society than enhancing it -For example, the rights of LGBTQ society has long been ignored in the US, for the majority of the population believe that they corrupt the moral of the nation. Therefore, a successful society should take particular care to ensure the wellbeing of its voiceless minorities and that not just the majority of the citizens are listened to - the wellbeing of society is achieved by minding the wellbeing and right of its individual citizens, and achieving a fine balance of collective and individual good.

In a nutshell, we must adhere to the facts that exist as of today.

Exaggerates importance of issue, facts & opinions become obscured & accusations are levied that can have both varying degrees of accuracy as well as extensive destructive effects. -Scandals prey on society's fears & emotions, fueled by ppl who thrive on spectacle. -However, extensive interest & disquiet generated are often disproportionate to the importance of the problems being exposed. -Public should know about companies that scam their customers & about govt leaders who violate public trust. Responsible journalists can report these issues w/out elevating them to monstrous proportions. However, real issues become obscured & ppl resort to nitpicking & character attacks. -If a corporate executive was embezzling company funds, for ex, public should be aware of it. Does public need to know that that person was arrested for drunk driving when he was 18 years old?

-many ppl argue that gov't should take extensive measures to protect species which are endangered by human activities in order to protect ecological diversity. I agree -Admittedly, human intervention may yield a bigger chaos to the ecosystem if we make efforts to protect species which are endangered b/c of natural processes, all species in ecosystem are interconnected -ex: wolves/deer/grass - However, doing nothing may cause bigger disaster to humans. As mentioned above, every species is interconnected, which means decrease in # of a species may affect humans -think about a scenario. Extinction of carnivores may increase # of herbivores - Human are the only living thing that can think rationally. As a member of nature, humans have obligation to go extra mile to protect nature - we should make efforts to save the species to the extent that the efforts do not severely disturb the ecosystem.
