Julius Caesar Act 1-2 Characters
Brutus
A senator, chief judge and second in power after the consul. He is a friend of Caesar, but joins the conspiracy because he loves Rome more than his friendship. Acknowledged by all as a noble Roman. He practices the philosophy of stoicism.
Cobbler
Acts as he is a surgeon.
Lucilius
An officer in the armies of B. and C. who impersonates Brutus at the second battle. Antony is impressed with his loyalty to Brutus and spares his life hoping he will serve him as he did B.
Cassius
Brutus' brother in law. An excellent judge of character. Argues that Antony should also be eliminated and later that he should not speak at Caesar's funeral. -both times overruled by Brutus. Commits suicide when he mistakenly believes Brutus has been defeated. A conspirator who succeeds in recruiting Brutus to their plot.
Verro & Claudius
Brutus' servants. Spend the night in the tent w/Brutus @ Sardis but neither sees the ghost of Caesar.
Portia
Brutus' wife, sister of Cassius and daughter of Cato. Very strong woman willing to even take her life when she realized that Brutus quest is doomed.
Calpurnia
Caesar's wife. She tries to prevent him from going to the Capitol on the day of his murder.
Cinna
Conspirator who leaves the letters in places where Brutus will find them.
Metellus Cimber
Gets Caesar's attention by asking for his banished brother, then the conspirators to stab him.
Mark Antony
Good friend of Caesar. Excellent orator to start the rebellion at Caesars funeral.
Decius Brutus
He has the gift of flattery and persuades Caesar to go to the Capital. Interprets Calpunia's dream in a positive manner and tells Caesar that the senate is to offer him the crown.
Trebonius
Lured Antony from the senate allowing the others time to stab Caesar. He is the one conspirator who does not stab Caesar.
Titinius
Officer in army of B&C. Scout for Cassius at Philippi. He commits suicide after finding that Cassius had killed himself believing that their side has been beaten.
Julius Caesar
Roman general who has defeated his rival Pompey.
Casca
Senator and shrewd member of the conspiracy. First to stab Caesar.
Popilius Lena
Senator who arrives to take Caesar to the Capitol. Not a part of the plot and shocked at the news. He sent out the message no one else will be harmed to the citizens.
Publius
Senator who wishes Cassius well as they approach the senate leading to speculation that their plot has been betrayed.
Cicero
Senator/Famous orator. Triumvirs have him executed.
Messala
Soldier serving B&C. Reports Portia's death to Brutus and is the one to discover Cassius' body.
Caius Ligarius
The last member of the conspiracy who meets with Brutus.
Flavius & Marullus
Two tribunes who were supported the dead Pompey and were executed for defacing statues of Caesar. "Policemen"
