now that blacks were no longer slaves they were freedman. But they were still in the south and the south was angry that the slaves were freed. It ward to find work because evan if they did find it there boss were unfair to them and took advantage.

reconstruction was the time right after the civil war when the north was bringing the southern states back into the Union and were rebuilding the south.
share croppers
share croppers were farmers that provided the home and the the seed. But the blacks working for them had to go and plant everything. then the workers had to pay the owner in amounts of some crop. If they failed to give that amount then they were in debt.
tenet farmers
tenet farmers were farmers who would rent there land to people.

was a group started by 6 civil war officers, the purpose of the group was to kill and intimidate blacks. The direst in white sheets so they would look like the ghosts of dead confederate soldiers. .
