- it is her lack of humanness that inhibits her from making true connections - their isolation from others gives them little opportunity to make true friends and connect with children their age. - Finally, for the Mother and other adults in the novel, the technological advancements in their society have separated them from one another in both the workforce and their daily lives. -Klara is extremely lonely, even when surrounded by people, and she longs for connection. The second thing revealed from this scenario is that Klara's ability to connect is not at the same level as humans. -These forced interactions have no real substance, leaving Josie and students like her incredibly lonely and without the proper social skills to form real and meaningful connections. - purchase Klara to help with this loneliness and being left at home alone all the time. - The Mother, for example, is motivated by her desperate desire to avoid feeling- for a second time- the grief and loneliness of losing a child.
