Nervous system reading
What does the somatic nervous system do
it controls the voluntary movements of the skeletal muscles
what is the spinal cord
a bundle of nerves that connects the brain to all other parts of the body
what is the peripheral nervous system
all the other nerves that are not in the central nervous system
what is the cauda equina
at the end of the spinal cord where the nerves become unbundled
what is the nervous system made of
brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves
what are the two divisions of the nervous system?
central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system
What are the 3 divisions of the brain
cerebrum, cerebellum, and brain stem
What are the two functions of the nervous system
controls and coordinates functions throughout the body and directs the body's response to changes in the environment
what does the autonomic nervous system do
it controls the involuntary muscles
what is the brain stem
located below the cerebrum, It connects the brain to the spinal cord. It regulates the flow of information between the rest of the brain and the body. The brain stem is separated into the parts, the pons, midbrain, and the medulla oblongata. The pons and midbrain are located at the top of it. The medulla oblongata is located at the bottom of it.
What is the cerebrum
the largest division of the brain, It is divided into a left and right hemisphere. Each side of the brain controls functions of the opposite side of the body.
what is the cerebellum
the second largest region of the brain. It is located at the back of the brain. It controls coordination and balance of the body's muscles. However, the command to move muscles come from the cerebrum.
what is the central nervous system
the system that connects the brain to the spinal cord
