A rapid swimming stroke consisting of alternating overarm strokes and a flutter kick; the crawl.
jump shot
A shot that is released after the shooter has jumped into the air.
cut
A term in basketball which describes the action of a player moving across the court.
double dribble (basketball)
A violation where a player stops dribbling, then dribbles again or dribbles with both hands
flutter kick
An alternating up and down kicking movement of the legs and feet used in the front and back crawl strokes.
swimmers mile
Definition of a mile. (in yards or meters) # of laps of a 25 yard or 25. meter pool in one mile. # of laps of a 50 yard or 50.
individual medley
Individual medley consists of a single swimmer swimming equal distances of four different strokes within one race.
traveling
Occurs when a player holding the ball moves one or both of their feet illegally.
lane lines
Swimming lane ropes help keep swimmers in their lanes. When you are swimming competitively, lane lines help you stay away from other swimmers and can provide you with a clear lane without dealing with the draft from other swimmers.
Key (basketball)
The key is one of the name given to an area below and in front of the basketball hoop.

violation
a common violation is the most minor class of illegal action. Most violations are committed by the team with possession of the ball, when a player mishandles the ball or makes an illegal move.
foul
a foul is an infraction of the rules more serious than a violation.
dolphin kick stroke
a kick in which the legs move up and down together, with the knees bent on the upswing.
jump ball
a method of putting the ball into play by tossing it up between two opponents at the start of the game
rebound
a rebound, colloquially referred to as a board, is a statistic awarded to a player who retrieves the ball after a missed field goal or free throw.
backboard
a rounded or rectangular board behind the basket on a basketball court which serves to keep missed shots from going out-of-bounds and from which the ball can be made to rebound into the basket.
lay up
a shot where a player releases the ball close to the basket while continuing to run off one foot
technical foul
a technical foul is any infraction of the rules penalized as a foul which does not involve physical contact during the course of play between opposing players on the court, or is a foul by a non-player.
turnover
a turnover occurs when a team loses possession of the ball to the opposing team before a player takes a shot at their team's basket.
assist
an assist is attributed to a player who passes the ball to a teammate in a way that leads to a score by field goal, meaning that he or she was "assisting" in the basket.
