Producer

An organism that can make its own food and is the source of energy to the ecosystem. PHOTOSYNTHESIS.

Consumer

An organism that obtains energy by feeding on other organisms.

Carnivore

Consumer that eats only MEAT.

Omnivore

Consumers that eat both PLANTS, ANIMALS, AND INSECTS.

Herbivore

Consumers that only eat PLANTS.

Secondary Consumer

Eat the PRIMARY CONSUMERS and CAN EAT OTHERS SECONDARY CONSUMERS.

Tertiary Consumer

Eat the SECONDARY CONSUMERS and CAN ONLY BE EATEN BY QUATERNARY CONSUMERS.

Decomposer

They break down wastes from living or once living things and dead organisms; RETURN THE RAW MATERIALS AND NUTRIENTS to the ecosystem.

Primary Consumer

They feed on producers and that makes them HERBIVORES.

Quaternary Consumer

Top of the food chain; mainly prey and eat on all animals below them.

Ecosystem

a community of organisms and nonliving things living and interacting in the same environment

Examples of secondary consumers (carnivores/omnivores)

frogs, snakes, large fish, foxes

Examples of tertiary consumer (carnivores/omnivores)

hawks, eagles, bears, humans, sharks, duck, seals

Examples of primary consumers (herbivores)

insects, deer, rabbits, mice, small fish

Food web

multiple flows of energy; shows how plants and animals are connected on multiple levels for survival

Examples of quaternary consumer (carnivores/omnivores)

polar bears, hawks, wolves, lions, sharks

Food Chain

single flow of energy; shows one path of energy as animals find food

Examples of producers

trees, grass, algae, phytoplankton, nuts and berries
