I would tell him that it is natural for these things to happen and are likely related to changes in puberty or due to the change in school. These changes are temporary. I would recommend he conference with her teachers to verify they can assist his daughter in the transition. I would tell him he simply needs to work on understanding her needs and assist her in learning by scaffolding to make the transition easier.
