Scatter Plots and Types of Graphs
scatter plot
a graph that shows the relationship between two data sets using ordered pairs in a coordinate plane
pictograph
a graph that uses pictures to show and compare information
line of best fit
line that is drawn on a scatter plot that is close to most data points and is used to estimate data
positive correlation
the relationship between two sets of data in which both sets of data increase together.
negative correlation
the relationship between two sets of data, in which one set of data decreases as the other set of data increases.
no correlation
there does not appear to be a relationship between two sets of data
constant correlation
y-coordinates remain about the same as x-coordinates increase.
histogram
A bar graph showing frequencies of data values in intervals of the same size
pie chart or circle graph
A data display that uses pieces of a circle to show parts of a whole or 100%.
